Your Outreach Dollars at Work

The Outreach Ministry is proud to share this brief summary of how your dollars were used in 2009.  Last year we placed special emphasis on supporting local organizations that provided food programs and basic services that were badly needed by many in our area due to high unemployment, foreclosures and  poor economic conditions.  With your generous support, we were able to help fund the following local and international organization

Local Programs

  • The Salvation Army, New Bedford
  • Sharing the Harvest, Dartmouth
  • PACE - Emergency Food Bank, New Bedford
  • The Hunger Commission, New Bedford
  • Inter-Church Council of Greater New Bedford (ICC)
  • Mission Trip 2010, Congo Church, Dartmouth
  • Nativity Preparatory School, New Bedford
  • Our Sisters School, New Bedford
  • Community Boating Center, New Bedford
  • Boys & Girls Club:  America Reads Program, New Bedford
  • Friends of the Elderly (for the Council on Aging), Dartmouth

In addition, our church gave money raised from Thanksgiving turkey sales and the Christmas Eve offering to the Market Ministries Meals and Shelter Program in New Bedford;  many members of our congregation volunteer their time in this program, too.   We also continue to fund the Minister's Discretionary Fund that provides money for heating fuel, food and warm clothing to be distributed for emergency needs.  Through the Holiday Hope Program, members of our congregation "adopted" 30 individuals and 15 families and provided their Christmas.
  • International Programs
  • Our Church's Wider Mission (OCWM) -- funds UCC ministries and service throughout the world
  • Hands Across the Sea -- provides educational supplies to poor schools in the Caribbean
  • Medical Missions for Children -- provides surgical, medical and dental care in underdeveloped countries
  • Central Asia Institute -- builds schools and educates children (especially girls) in remote regions of Pakistan and Afghanistan
  • FINCA International -- provides microloans to alleviate poverty in poor countries
Thank you for your generosity and support of our church's Outreach Ministry.  In 2010 we look forward to continuing to work with you to serve our local and global communities.  We plan to conduct a formal review of organizations nominated for funding in June and November, but can take action at other times if the need arises.  Please send us your recommendations at any time, and we will give them careful consideration.

Outreach is currently determining the best way(s) for our church to respond to the terrible tragedy in Haiti.  Thank you to all who have already donated funds to earthquake relief efforts either through the UCC or another organization.  We will keep you informed of other opportunities to help.
