Dr. Jones is known for his work developing a cappella choirs. He is the author of A Sight Singing Guide, used at several universities, which presents a unique approach to teaching unaccompanied sight-reading to choristers and church choir members. He is composer of more than three dozen anthems and responses for a cappella choirs of average ability, and a collection of children’s songs designed to impart sight-reading skills at the grade-school level.
A graduate of Northwestern University and the University of Southern California, Dr. Jones supplemented his matriculation with seminars at Cal-State Long Beach, Kansas State, Temple, Drake, Univ. of Colorado, Univ. of Illinois, and the Aspen Music Festival. He served for seventeen seasons as Music Director of the Denver Chamber Choir, an ensemble of 24 select voices, which premiered more than 40 important works for Colorado audiences during his tenure. The Choir also served as Chorus-in-Residence for a two-week Haydn Seminar in Austria. The Director of Music enjoys an annual stipend for professional enrichment.
A resident of nearby Rhode Island, Dr. Jones now serves as RI Chairman for The National Guild of Piano Teachers, and maintains an active class of private students. His personal life revolves around being a grandpa for the children of his adopted son, Tony, and daughter-in-law, Michelle.
